when the popcorn bag says two minutes, don’t put it in the microwave for three.

yikes.

well, we said it was w for wading in the water since it was w week.

there is a beautiful trail with a creek on the other end of town.

the weather cooperated for two of the three scheduled field trip days. we have one more trip to take on the next warm and sunny day.

i bought water boots for the kids.

and then took pictures of them…all lined up.

these were mostly for foot protection (there is plenty of broken glass) since they’d fill up pretty quickly. : )

along a little trail we found a (college?) built tee pee. perfect size for these little friends.

there are oodles of photos, so many more to sort through…but these give you a sense of what it was like!

this was a great way to spend a friday.

we were outside with a slightly strange looking volcano.

we used up the rest of the baking soda and vinegar.

even i was surprised!

again, the expressions are wonderful:

after we did a few group experiments, we brought out the individual supplies:

there was an impressive amount of restraint:

and a lot of excitement!

yes, good old baking soda and vinegar.

we used an old bottle (and covered it with plastic bags for a mountain feel).

exciting times.

the kids’ expressions are so wonderful. what i am sad about is that my camera battery died on thursday morning. trust me, their expressions were fabulous too (especially the one little girl that i thought was nervous and it turns out she reported she was bored. so bored she couldn’t fall asleep that night. oops.). waiting for things to get started is understandably boring…these kids will be pros.

when we turned the matboard V upside down, most kids called it the letter A.

i convinced them to see it as a volcano. the tissue paper lava helped.
hum “i’m a little teapot” and then use these words:

i’m a volcano wide and tall (arms wide, then tall):

i am so strong, i will not fall (show big arm muscles).
when i am ready you will see (crouch down and tremble):

lava bursting out of me (jump up and use arms as exploding lava):

red playdoh for lava and funnels for volcanoes.
