it’s getting festive and friendly around here!

with only a few new props, play has evolved to santa, jesus, reindeer, trees, chimneys, mary and joseph…

and a couple days of spontaneous pageants with theology i wish i would have written down

we haven’t used this song in preschool at all, but the lyrics are worth noting when thinking of these sweet young ones.

with a little sparkly rick rack, our preschool village is looking ready for christmas!

c is for christmas card station

with a word wall, pencils, old cards and envelopes, there is a lot of writing going on. we make this type of “station” for other reasons too (e is for envelope, v is for valentine, p is for pencil, a is for address, t is for telephone number, etc).

j is for jingle bell poem

we used our cutting muscles again to cut foil (folded over 6 times) circles.

the teachers helped seperate them. one we glued in our journal and the rest we used for a jingle bell project to go with the poem we wrote at circle time:

the preschoolers glued strips of paper on so they touched the TOP of the paper, then glued their jingle bells on the BOTTOM of each strip.

let me tell you, i should have written: sing + clap + JUMP to “Jingle Bells.”

j is for jingle bell

we used j week to explore metal vs non-metal

with huge bags of thrifted wooden beads and more bags of jingle bells, we made necklaces and tree ornaments.

before we made them, all the bells and wooden beads were mixed in a large bucket. when we sunk a magnet wand in and pulled out, it was covered with jingle bells. that was a good time. i recommend it.

s is for snowflake

once children have mastered the basics of this activity, there are so many variances!

one option for our “snippers” is to give them a paper plate to snip and then fold the edges. quite satisfying for accmplished cutters too!

for those with more scissor control and strength, we offer the traditional folded square. if they like, we draw lines for them to cut on.

mounted or hanging free…beautiful.
