we have a supply of rubber bands in our room intended for our rubber band boards. there are children (more than just these three pictured here) who LOVE to shoot them. of course, the first assumption is that this is not okay for inside a classroom.
but a couple of months ago, i listened to the reasoning of a couple of boys. i saw the “safety” provisions they set up, including a sign they made, taped up, then realized that it wouldn’t work because no one knew how to read. : ) so, we made some announcements and let a section of the room be a rubber band shooting corner
just a few days ago i found this scene. i looked at these boys who were focused and constructive. i saw their awareness of peers and was simply happy for them. happy for their freedom of spirit. happy for this chance. knowing that they are going to kindergarten and i am guessing this will not be a center there.
